They Hang Your Picture Upside Down

For a different worldview

State your peace, go ahead and say it
I swear it can’t get much worse
Make a piece of history, a blessing from a curse
Before it gets worse

Hootie and the Blowfish

Dysfunctional society
Reminiscent of
My family
Viper brood of origin
Precisely what I mean

Cruel and unkind
Generally psychotic
Better toe the line
Or they’ll knock
You down for it

“They say c’mon be real
Tell us how you feel”
Then they satirize
And demonize
Your different worldview

They paint you
With a broad stroke
An enemy of all
Hang your picture upside down
Chastise your cheeky gall

How dare you speak your truth
When you reason what is wrong
Free speech becomes comedic
If you disdain the
Emperor’s thong

It’s not that I don’t love you
It’s the sickness I can’t stand
As you postulate
Your purpose
While silencing the lamb

If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.

George Washington

*** This poem is dedicated to all the heroes sung and unsung who courageously speak the truth-no matter the cost.
